Call me idealistic, but I prefer to focus on the positive nature of what I see in each of us.

My main area of interest is the human form in action, at rest, dressed, partially draped or nude. The human figure contains all the elements of geometry, light, shadow, proportion, expression-comedy/drama that have attracted picture-makers since the first sunrise. I do not assume that my pictorial studies portray anything more than the image I see. The viewer can take it from there.

I consider nudity synonymous with purity. The nude figure is pure line and form, freedom, honesty, simplicity. I have no interest in portraying sexual themes.

Not all of my images of the face are necessarily portraits . I often use elements of nature or items of clothing as props to frame or enhance it. Having said that, I have received many commissions based on the accurate likenesses I am able to achieve. Commissions include :

Wax crayon used in pointillistic style is a unique feature of my work. The unforgiving result of applying colour, dot by dot, alla-prima method, makes it an exacting creative experience for me. The combination of crayon applied in pointillist style creates an atmosphere in each ‘painting', a colourful context, a complex simplicity, a soft, comfortable quality.

I also work in marker (stippling), acrylic paint and pencil.

I am a retired elementary school teacher and a self-taught artist. I love to draw, I love colour, I love invention. Thankfully, my wife of 35 years and my five children have taken my interests in stride.
